[about]
VARIOUS ARTISTS swing on the pendulum between making and curating/producing performances. VA projects include the interdisciplinary performance series Rhizomatica: An Occasional Cabaret at Pacific Switchboard, and performances of poetry and avant-garde improvised and creatively scored music by artists including improvising musician, Jack Wright and poets, Dottie Grossman and Jack Collum.
While any VARIOUS ARTISTS project is summing its parts, the core, the V and the A in VARIOUS ARTISTS are Tim DuRoche and Lisa Radon.
From Minneapolis, Tim DuRoche is a drummer who plays jazz from ragtime to no-time, a writer and conceptual artist. DuRoche has collaborated with artists, dancers, poets, members of the Beijing Opera, Russian circus clowns, and some of America's finest jazz improvisors including Portland's Rob Blakeslee, the late Cap’n Jack McDuff, blues legend Otis “Big Smokey” Smothers, Douglas Ewart and Carei Thomas of the AACM, Frank Gratkowski, and George Cartwright.
Lisa Radon has done time in SF, LA and points in between. She's a poet who makes art, performance and otherwise. Word wrangler/welder/wilder Radon has done her thing at the San Francisco Poetry Festival, the Spare Room Sound Poetry Festival, and that madcap Lollapalooza. Her work has been published online and off, anthologized, and repurposed as libretto.
DuRoche and Radon perform together frequently and collaborate projects including sonic installations melding sound and word and other public art. DuRoche and Radon also perform and conduct workshops for youth.
